Some time ago we started working on the project file format, this has been ready for some time now, but we have made some adjustments to the project files to make them compatible with Dev-C++ project files. This has been tested and seems to work well, i took an existing Dev-C++ project and just opened it with Masquerade without any problems. Still a lot of the options are missing in the Project Settings window, but this is high priority and will be done before the release.
Many of you have probably been waiting a long time for the release of Masquerade, and i can tell you now that your waiting is soon going to end. The BeOS version will be released on the 30. of April. and the Syllable version a short time after due to the porting. Masquerade version 0.2 is just what the version number indicates, it's not a full featured product. During the last few months we have developed a lot of concept code that not yet have found it's way into the Masquerade build, but after the release of version 0.2 we will for some period come with frequent updates to Masquerade, released to the public. A lot of the concepts deal with team development, and i don't talk about those trips to the pub with your colleges, but a way to be a big team sitting at different locations working on the same project at the same time without overwriting each others code. I'll cover this more in detail a bit later. Another thing happening after the release of 0.2 is that i will come with a monthly news letter with articles and tutorials on how to use Masquerade the best way possible and also telling about what will happen. This news section will still be active, but some of the big news will be covered in more detail in the news letters. I also want to thank the community, not only the BeOS community but also the Syllable Community...
Long time since the last update, but now i have really good news. Version 0.1.3 of Masquerade is ready, and there has as always been a lot of fixes. All interface problems have been fixed, the project file support has been extended and the project options and Masquerade settings panel now has lots of goodies for you. If no big problems come jumping out of a box, Masquerade version 0.2 will be released in late April or early May. There you have a release date. I will try to update the site a bit more often now that our release is very near. We have also started the work on some new features, but these will probably find it's way into a later version. Among them is Auto-completion and other text editing features.
There has been some time since i updated the news section, well i haven't got much news other than that we are still working hard to get Masquerade ready to our release date. Version 0.2 will probably be a bit stripped due to not making incompatibility with future versions. But will still be a fully usable code editor. Since this will be the first public release it is important that you give feedback on problems and new features you would like to see, as well as improvements to existing features..
Earlier today we built version 0.1.2 so we are closing in on version 0.2, who will be the first public release. We have fixed a bit of the interface ugliness, more settings have been added and added more power to the project file format.
You can now download a template translation file from the downloads section of this site. The translation should be quite easy, as there is not much to translate. This translation file is for Masquerade version 0.2. This will be the first version released to the public. When i can not tell you at the moment, the reason why is that i dont know yet.
We have started Localizing Masquerade, for those of you who want to get Masquerade in your native language, i will put a default language file in the downloads section. This will probably be done on saturday or sunday. So it's just to download it and translate to your language if you want to.
We have decided to make a port of our beloved Masquerade to Syllable. For those of you not familiar with this OS please check out their website for more information. The main build of Masquerade will always remain on the BeOS/Zeta platform.
We just wanted to thank the community for all the support we have been getting, the last fiew days have been exiting and we have got a lot of mail from people wanting to be beta testers, asking about release dates and so on. A big thank you to the community.
I'm proud to announce that Masquerade now has support for project files, the project file format is at the time a bit limited but it's there. As i've said earlier this mens that we will start using Masquerade for our development, and there is a lot of advantages doing so. We are then able to catch bugs easier because we use the app daily.
I've updated the site a bit, and as you probably can see I've put up a link to the nordic beos user group. I've also added a newer screenshot for you're pleasure, well just as the last time the screenshot is kinda ugly, we've been mostly working on the inner workings of Masquerade and optimized the code a bit. I had planed to fix the interface ugliness before posting screenshots but since I've been sick for over a week I haven't had much time on my hands other than keeping the bed.
Some minor features and fixes has been added to Masquerade, at the time i can not tell you much of what those features are because we've had people trying to steal the details of our features.
A new killing feature has been added to the Masquerade, if you are sick of writing things over and over again or dealing with copy and paste you will love this feature.
I've posted some old screen shots for your pleasure, i will make some new screenshots of our current build this weekend. If you think it looks awfull then wait to see the new shots.
The Masquerade project is no longer kept secret, earlier today there was made an announcment. You can find the announcment at The BeOS Journal and at ZetaNews.
The site has been updated with more information on the project that has been kept secret for just to long.
We started working on what have become Masquerade in january 2003, and now we have a working version of it. Version 0.1 Alpha 1 has full customizable syntax highlighting, ability to open many files in a tabbed interface, our project file format is nearly ready and so is the add-on engine. We will soon be self-hosting and use Masquerade for our development, as soon as the project file support is ready.
The Masquerade web site is at last up and running after many months of planning.
